Play PS2 backups with a modchip

To play backups using a neo2 modchip is the same as descibed in playing backups without a modchip but the only thing different here is that you do not have to manually swap in your backup, you can just press eject on the ps2, put in your backup and load it. You still need a Gameshark 2 for this method since it is pretty much the key to playing backups on the PS2. The modchip just stores the boot code in order for you to push eject, and pop in your backup.

Although this may seem easier, the downside of using a modchip are as follows:

1) You have to permanently modify your ps2 console and solder 5 wires to your PS2 mainboard.

2) You'll void your warranty

3) If your modchip isn't installed correctly, you risk damaging your $500 gaming machine forever!

4) Some report that they're PS2 doesn't always function properly after installing a modchip

5) There seem to be modchip detecting games out there, and this causes your game to stop loading when detected

The old Neo2 modchip is known to have problems booting DVD-R backups and EA Sports games. There is a new soon to be released "Neo4" modchip coming out which will allow the booting of all PS2 and PSX games including DVD-R rips. The Neo-4 is also said to not need the Gameshark2! Maybe when the Neo4 comes out, I may reconsider installing a modchip then, because of its great practicality. The Neo2 on the other hand, will soon be obsolete.
